Introduction

Small Groups are an integral part of the mission and vision of Kamloops United Church.  They are sub-groups of the congregation, which complement and strengthen Christian community and the whole Church.  Small Groups are one of the main ways we deepen our discipleship and carry out Christ's ministry within and beyond the congregation.

Why join a Small Group?

With the guidance of a trained facilitator Small Groups gather to:

bullet   explore a common passion
bullet   grow spiritually
bullet   share in a confidential, Christian community
bullet   encourage, care, and pray for one another and others
bullet   serve through some form of ministry

How do Small Groups work?

Small groups a KUC are intentional gatherings of three to twelve people who live out their purposes as covenanted communities meeting on a regular basis for a defined period of time.

History

Small groups are not new.  From Christ's twelve disciples to John Wesley's Methodist classes, to today's small groups, recovering the gift of Christian community has long sustained and renewed God's people.  At KUC we are called to rediscover Small Groups--this ancient yet modern form of Christian community.

Four Essential Components (What would we be doing?)

Prayer:  growing closer to God and to each other by praying for each other in a variety of ways.

Biblical Reflection:  receiving God's word.  Looking at a biblical text with the goal of relating it to one's daily journey of faith.

Mutual Support:  learning to listen to each other.  Sharing stories and care, discovering the values of building community.

Group Ministry Task:  blessed to be a blessing.  A group learns accountability as participants take on specific tasks to serve their church or the wider community.
